The north of England’s leading conference and events venue partnered with Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in 2012 to provide event management students with an opportunity to learn on-the-job skills from its experienced team of professionals.
Around 70 ambitious students apply for the position each year, looking to put their theoretical experience into practice and gain a true insight into the events industry.
The salaried 48-week placement provides one successful candidate with the opportunity to learn from Manchester Central’s team of experts and gain valuable experience in planning and delivering leading events; as well as initiate and develop professional relationships within the industry.
All of the students that have completed the placement and their university course have graduated with first class honours, testament to the quality of experience gained at Manchester Central; and all of them are now in full-time event-related employment.
Angie Robinson, CEO of Manchester Central, said: “We are so proud of the students that have worked alongside us and the talent we have nurtured through this placement scheme; two of our mentees are now employed by Manchester Central and the third is putting their experience into practice at a leading events agency.
“The industry is always calling out for talent and we’re keen to continue growing and developing our already highly experienced team of professionals while cultivating the next wave of events up-and-comers.”
The scheme is supported by another collaborative initiative which sees Manchester Central connect organisers with key contacts at MMU to recruit engaged and quality volunteers from event management courses; providing them with extra pairs of hands to ensure an outstanding visitor experience.
