tekom annual conference becomes established in high-tech StuttgartBe it user and operating manuals, online help, spare parts catalogues or mobile documentation – technical communication is a key factor that determines the success of technical products and software in many different sectors. This is why technical editors from around the world met up at the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart from November 10 – 12 to attend the annual conference of the tekom, the German trade association for technical communication.
Some 4,200 convention participants and trade fair visitors took advantage of the lecture series, international venue and fair combined. The tekom conference is widely regarded as the largest market-place for technical communication worldwide. This year, a total of 175 international companies exhibited there. Current industry trends and fundamental know-how with practical relevance for technical editorial departments were also conveyed in 230 lectures, tutorials and workshops.
For Stefan Lohnert, Division Director Guest Events at Messe Stuttgart, the tekom annual conference, which is held at the same time as the English-language tcworld conference and the tekom trade fair, could not be more at home in Stuttgart, which is renowned for its high-tech companies. “The event takes place in one of Europe's economically strongest regions. Companies in the automotive and mechanical engineering sectors rely on intelligent IT solutions as well as modern and innovative technical communication, which is why the tekom is a perfect match for this area.”
Approximately 8,000 members strong, the largest trade association for technical communication in Europe moved its conference location to Stuttgart from Wiesbaden in 2014 and has already booked the ICS through 2017. The event also took up the entire facility this year as well, of which 9,400 square metres were reserved for the trade fair alone.
“We feel very comfortable at the ICS not only because our trade association is headquartered in Stuttgart; what matters much more is the flexibility of the organisation, which allows us to offer easy access to the exhibition and lecture areas and provide optimal conditions for interfacing on site”, affirms Dr. Michael Fritz, Managing Director of tekom. “The close proximity to the airport is also ideal for our guests who arrive from other countries.”
