BCEC – well connected for the world’s most influential business event

As Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) prepares to welcome world leaders, their delegations and 3,000 international media this week, the Centre’s Audio Visual & Production Services (AVPS) Team is gearing up for their biggest gig of all time.

The scale of the G20 Leaders Summit with its high profile, political, international business and security layers is something Brisbane and the Centre has never before encountered.

The Centre’s specialist Audio Visual Team has been working full time for six months on the event, which at its peak will occupy 75 AVPS operators each day around the clock, the most for any event in the Centre’s lifetime.

The AVPS component of the event which has been entirely planned, operated and managed by BCEC’s in-house Audio Visual Team involves total manpower of 99 AVPS professionals and is using every piece of the Centre’s extensive AVPS inventory plus additional specialist items.

The equipment list eclipses all others:
• 300 x 40” monitors for vision and audio throughout the building
• 18m x 5m LED screen, weighing 4 tonne and made up of 324 individual LED panels to carry ABC News 24, BBC, Fox and international time zones in the International Media Centre
• Almost one kilometre of truss
• 15km of cable for just one room
• 9km of network highway to feed all free to air television channels, 11 Foxtel channels and the Host Broadcaster
• 100km of cable taking images of G20 to billions of people around the globe

To achieve this the BCEC Team are utilising 37 Riedel MediorNet frames that will transport 112 channels of Audio and 51 channels of HD Video. This equates to more channels of video than the entire Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
