Eastern Airways introduces more flights from Leeds Bradford to Aberdeen

Flights from Leeds Bradford Airport to Aberdeen are being increased by Eastern Airways with new improved timings also being introduced to the route.
From 22 April 2013, the UK’s second largest regional airline will increase services from 22 to 26 a week with up to three flights operating in each direction on Mondays and Thursdays.

Finavia has completed the work for creating a uniform air navigation system for Finland

Finavia has introduced a uniform air traffic control system for the whole of Finland, when the air navigation system reform project initiated in 2009 has been completed. Thanks to the reform, all Finavia’s airports and the area control centres now use a uniform radar surveillance system. The uniform system will further improve the functionality and cost efficiency of the air navigation services provided for air traffic. During the period 2009–2013, Finavia has invested nearly EUR 20million in creating a uniform air navigation system for Finland.

Quick, secure departures as SITA’s technology arrives at Beirut Airport

Passengers at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY) are enjoying faster check-in and boarding and on-time departures with the arrival of new systems from SITA, the leading air transport IT provider. Lebanese Air Transport Co (LAT), which manages departure control services for 15 airlines that use the airport, has switched to SITA’s Departure Control Services (DCS). More than 120 airlines and ground handlers globally use this world-class system.

Malaysia Airlines helps Small Steps Project

Malaysia Airlines has helped UK charity Small Steps Project on its latest mission to Cambodia, flying out vital vitamins, which are difficult for NGOs to source in the country. The charity is dedicated to supporting children living on rubbish dumps around the world and raising awareness of the hardships they face through the production of documentary films. The project delivers shoes, hygiene kits, clothing and food, as well as help provide education and build nurseries and crèches to strive to improve children’s conditions, working with local partners to help them take small steps from their grueling existence.

Amadeus reveals new analysis of global air travel trends

300 world ‘super routes’ attract 20% of all air travel, Amadeus reveals in new analysis of global trends

New analysis from Amadeus Air Traffic Travel  Intelligence  solution reveals that worldwide air traffic volume grew 5% between 2011 and 2012, with Asia being the largest, fastest-growing and most competitive market for air travel. The solution - which provides comprehensive passenger volume data, including both direct and indirect sales of airline seats - shows that Asia experienced year over year growth of 9% between 2011 and 2012, followed by Latin America, at 6%. The tool, part of the Amadeus’ Travel Intelligence portfolio, calculates the most accurate air passenger volume for any Origin and Destination (O&D) worldwide.
