Asia’s second largest carrier sees payment acceptance rates soar with WorldpayChina Eastern Airlines (CEA), has selected Worldpay as its primary international payments provider, in a deal that saw payment acceptance rates across the carrier’s growing list of websites rise to over 90% in the weeks following implementation.
Serving more than 80 million travellers every year, CEA needed a payments platform that could help it grow its international and long-haul business, particularly in key global markets such as the US, Asia, Australia and Europe. As a leading acquirer with truly global coverage, Worldpay was ideally placed to deliver a complete payments infrastructure across the airline’s 17 local websites. The stability of Worldpay’s payments system also had immediate benefits for CEA’s business, which saw payment acceptance rates on those websites covered in the first phase of implementation soar to over 90% for the first time.
Following the successful connection to the Worldpay payments platform for its US, Canada and Singapore websites, CEA chose to bring forward the next phase of its implementation in Hong Kong and The Philippines and saw payment acceptance rates in these markets also rise to over 90%. The Worldpay solution is now live across 14 of CEA’s local websites, with the final phase of Korea, Taiwan and Japan completing rollout this month.
Worldpay is also to compete more effectively with other global airlines by enabling it to unlock the value of its transaction data. Data insight from Worldpay in the form of payment approval rates and customers’ preferred payment methods is playing a central role in helping CEA to improve the service it provides travellers by gaining a better understanding of their payment journey. Worldpay’s global reach and multi-currency pricing also means that CEA is well positioned to provide an excellent payment experience to passengers in new territories as they come on line, using a solution which will enable travellers to buy flights using locally preferred payment methods, such as Alipay or PayPal.
