Scandinavian Airlines launches new service to Hong Kong

Scandinavian Airlines’ (SAS) first departure to Hong Kong took off today, offering good connections with the UK from Heathrow and Manchester.  At the same time, SAS re-opened its lounge at Arlanda following extensive refurbishment, offering an enhanced transfer experience for UK customers.

The new route to Hong Kong is SAS’s fourth direct connection between Scandinavia and Asia, and SAS is the only airline to fly direct between Scandinavia and Hong Kong.  Hong Kong is one of the world’s busiest airports and is the largest in the world in terms of freight.  The route has five departures per week from Stockholm, with easy connections with Heathrow, Manchester and other major European hubs.

Rickard Gustafson, President and CEO of SAS comments, “Today we are writing a new chapter in the history of SAS, as we launch our direct route between Stockholm and Hong Kong.  We are very proud to be linking the UK with Hong Kong through a convenient new connection via Stockholm.  We look forward to offering a warm welcome on board to all our customers”.

SAS has also reopened its popular lounge in Terminal 5 at Arlanda today. The lounge has two separate sections – one for EuroBonus Diamond and Gold members, including Star Alliance Gold, and one for those travelling in Business or SAS Plus.

The lounge, which now covers an area of 1,400m2 has been upgraded in a Scandinavian style that combines functionality and design, and offers a larger buffet area, new combined meeting rooms and guest offices, travel services, a new relaxation area, workstations, toilets and showers, as well as a play area for younger travellers and plenty of electrical outlets, charging stations and fast wireless internet.

In addition to the new Hong Kong service, SAS currently also offers long haul flights from Scandinavia to New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo.  During 2016 SAS will open three more flights; Stockholm to Los Angeles, Oslo to Miami and Copenhagen to Maimi.
