KLM to celebrate its 95th anniversary today

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will celebrate its 95th anniversary today (7 October 2014), and to mark this milestone, will be unveiling a special ‘KLM 95 years’ logo on one of its MD-11 aircraft; as well as laying the first stone for a new KLM lounge at Amsterdam Schiphol, and presenting a new KLM Delftware miniature house.

The ‘KLM 95 years’ logo will be unveiled by Camiel Eurlings, President & CEO of KLM, on 7 October. The logo will feature on one of KLM’s MD-11 aircraft, and for the duration of KLM’s anniversary, will appear on one aircraft of each type in KLM’s intercontinental fleet.

The first stone of KLM’s new lounge at Amsterdam Schiphol will be laid by a special guest, together with Camiel Eurlings, President & CEO of KLM, and Jos Nijhuis, CEO of the Schiphol Group. Set to open in 2016, the new lounge will mark the latest addition to Amsterdam Schiphol’s facilities for intercontinental Business Class passengers, and will feature Dutch design, developed with the Amsterdam architectural agency behind the design of the W Hotel in London.

The presentation of KLM’s 95th Delftware miniature house will take place at a special event in Amsterdam on 7 October, when KLM will continue its tradition of presenting the miniature house on its anniversary each year. The Delftware miniature house models are currently offered as an exclusive gift for World Business Class passengers on KLM flights, and have fast become a popular collector’s item.

Camiel Eurlings, President & CEO of KLM says: “Thanks to the efforts, expertise, and energy of our 33,000 employees, KLM is now the world’s oldest airline still operating under its original name, and it is important that we celebrate this landmark. KLM is rooted in Dutch society and we all have KLM-blue blood running through our veins – we look forward to the years to come with confidence.”
