airberlin offers free currywurst throughout Germany on 3 October

From 12:30 pm on the Day of German Unity, airberlin will serve all passengers on its domestic German flights a complimentary portion of Germany's favourite snack: currywurst. In total, around 6,000 portions of currywurst from the Sansibar restaurant in Sylt will be served on that day. In the morning, airberlin offers passengers on its domestic German flights a sweet currant bun or savoury pretzel stick.

During the day, passengers have the choice of a sweet or savoury snack, which on 3 October will be replaced by currywurst. Every year, airberlin serves more than 150,000 in-flight portions of the popular curried sausage.

airberlin has been offering currywurst, which remains a firm favourite on the Sansibar menu, as an additional in-flight service on its flights since 2007. airberlin is therefore one of the few European airlines on which, in addition to complimentary snacks and drinks, hot in-flight food can be purchased without having to pre-order. A choice of various gourmet Sansibar dishes is available on board almost all airberlin City Shuttle and medium-haul flights longer than 90 minutes. An even bigger selection of gourmet Sansibar meals can be ordered in advance via the internet at As well as currywurst, around 20 more Sansibar dishes are available.
