TAP now flies to 12 destinations in Brazil, further strengthening its position as the world’s leading airline in operations to South America and the most frequent flyer from the UK to Brazil.
The route is to be launched with three weekly frequencies (Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays) and will operate the route London - Lisbon – Manaus – Belém – Lisbon - London.
Manaus and Belem are important eco-tourism destinations. Manaus with a population of 2.3 million people, is the capital city of the state of Amazonas and one of the fastest growing regions in Brazil. Whilst, Belem is the capital city of the state of Pará, the entrance gate to the Amazon River with a population of 2.25 million. Manaus has also been named as a host city for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, joining nine other host cities to be serviced by TAP flights.
The service adds to TAP’s current flight offering of 10 gateways in Brazil, taking the total number of weekly flights in operation to 74: Fortaleza; Natal; Recife; Salvador; Brasília; Belo Horizonte; Rio de Janeiro; São Paulo; Campinas and Porto Alegre.
The new route will also further expand TAP’s existing connections, via Lisbon, to 79 destinations in 34 countries worldwide including Africa and North and South America.
