Thai Airways International celebrates 40 years in the UK

On November 2, 1973 Thai Airways made its inaugural DC8 flight between Bangkok and London, the First Asia-Pacific to serve Asia and LHR.  Currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of its operation out of the UK, THAI has come a very long way since those early pioneering days.

Instead of flying just twice a week, the airline now operates two non-stop flights each day  between London and Bangkok with onward connections throughout Thailand and the Far East.  Back in 1973 flight time was 15 hours, now it takes just 11 hours 20 minutes!

Today THAI serves 70 cities across five continents and is proud to be one of the largest airlines in South East Asia.  THAI operates with two aircraft types: the newly retrofitted B747-400 provides a daily day-time flight while the A346 operates the overnight service.  Whichever flight and class they choose, every passenger experiences THAI’s first-class legendary services and cuisine.

Britain counts among THAI´s core markets and year-on-year visitor numbers to Thailand keep increasing with 882,168 British travellers visiting the country in 2013.
