British Airways announces nonstop
service between London and AIBA

British Airways has announced  that it will launch a new nonstop service between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and London Heathrow beginning early March 2014, just in time for SXSW® Music, Film, and Interactive Conferences and Festivals. This will be the first regular transatlantic flight for the city of Austin.

"We're ecstatic that British Airways decided to add nonstop service between London and Austin. It shows that they see the future potential for this marketplace as the epicenter of central Texas," said Bob Lander, President and CEO of the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Visitors from the UK currently represent our top overseas market and we know that this flight will help us increase that number. Additionally, the Heathrow gateway allows us to open up our destination to EU markets like Germany, France, and the Netherlands."

British Airways will operate a Boeing 787 aircraft five days a week, increasing to daily flights in May 2014. Seats and vacation packages are available for purchase at beginning today. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport served a record 9.4 million passengers in 2012 and traffic has increased 6% year-to-date. The nonstop flight launch in early 2014 will allow visitors to book tickets in time to enjoy other 2014 Austin signature events like the X Games Austin, Austin City Limits Music Festival, and the Formula One Race at Circuit of the AmericasTM.
