Flights to worldwide destinations from Cambridge International Airport launch next week

Darwin Airline interline agreement with leading global airline Etihad Airways, introducing connecting services to destinations around the world via Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva and Milan

Flights are now available to dozens of destinations around the world from Cambridge International Airport, following an interline agreement with Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Darwin Airline, which launches new scheduled services from Cambridge on 2 September 2013.

Darwin Airline will now be able to offer onward connections from its flights to Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva and Milan, through to Etihad Airways’ hub Abu Dhabi and beyond. Destinations now on sale from Cambridge include Australia, the Indian Ocean, Asia, Africa and the Far East.

Under the cooperation agreement, passengers and their baggage can be checked-in at Cambridge all the way through to their final Etihad Airways ticketed destination, taking advantage of quick transfer times between Darwin Airline and Etihad Airways services at Amsterdam, Paris CDG, Geneva or Milan Malpensa.  Passengers can choose from a range of excellent connections at the time of booking and enjoy convenient gate-to-gate transfers, while baggage is transferred between flights behind the scenes.

David Surley, Head of Business & Route Development of Cambridge International Airport, said, "This agreement gives Cambridge a new and truly worldwide reach, connecting on to Etihad Airways, one of the world’s most exciting and fast-growing carriers.  It is excellent news for passengers and businesses across the East of England.”

Etihad Airways has been voted the World’s Leading Airline for four consecutive years at the World Travel Awards.  Its ultra-modern fleet features excellent hospitality in three cabins of service and class-leading in-flight entertainment.  Darwin Airline connections to Etihad Airways at Amsterdam, Paris CDG, Geneva and Milan Malpensa offer convenient transfer to destinations in Asia, Africa and Oceania.  This includes 45 destinations within Australia and New Zealand, which can be reached via Etihad Airways in partnership with Virgin Australia.

Christian Schneider, CCO at Darwin Airline, welcomed the co-operation, saying, “The convenience of this tie-up is great for our passengers.  Etihad Airways is a fantastic airline and we are thrilled to be able to link its long-haul flights to ours via all four European points serviced directly from Cambridge.  It is really something very special for the long-haul traveller, offering excellent choice, every day of the week.  You can fly out via Amsterdam, back via Paris, or whichever connection works best.  Cambridge to Abu Dhabi takes from just eight hours and Cambridge to the Maldives from approximately 14 and a half hours, which is very competitive.”
