The CTO this month has released its latest conference and meetings figures recorded during the EU Presidency’s second semester in 2012. The data reveals that over 194 events took place on the island – an average of 33 per month, with over 18,000 participants (over a third attended from overseas).

New report identifies large portion of industry at risk from slow adoption

eNett has predicted that the travel industry faces “being left behind” as the cost of out-dated payment systems and payment methods fail to keep up with technology usage in other areas. The research, the first of its kind to explore the views of over 1,500 respondents from across the travel industry globally, found that the sector is not yet fully embracing the transformational power of more innovative payment methods and, as a consequence, agents, wholesalers and tour operators are still facing a number of challenges which impact their ability to compete.

Distribution and IT Solutions businesses maintain good growth

Amadeus IT Holding, S.A. (Amadeus: “AMS.MC”), parent company of the Amadeus Group, a leading technology partner for the global travel industry, has announced year-on-year financial and operating results for the first quarter of 2013 (three months ended March 31, 2013).
Adjusted profit for the first quarter increased 5.0% to reach €176.3 million. This was backed by growth in revenue of 4.0% (4.7% adjusted for FX) to €795.0 million and a 5.3% (6.2% adjusted for FX) rise in EBITDA to €323.4 million.

Essence Communications merges with Surgery PR

Surgery Communications and Essence communications has announced that they are merging to form Surgery Group. The Surgery Group's CEO Linzi Boyd and Managing Director Caroline Gautier will continue to head up the agency alongside Essence founder Simon Rayner where they will maintain offices in London with plans to expand in other countries.
