First apprentice makes it through Venues Event Management training programme

Venues Event Management has invested time and money into a young apprenticeship scheme, who has successfully made it through the initial three month training programme.

Matthew Knotts started with Venues Event Management, part of Capita plc, in June 2012 as Venues Event Management’s first young apprentice. Supporting the IT Department, Matthew has completed the company’s three month training programme and now advances on to the next nine months of his apprenticeship scheme.

The apprenticeship scheme is new to the company and Dale Greenhood, IT Manager for Venues Event Management explains the reasoning behind joining the scheme; “The IT Department is a demanding department, not only supporting the IT systems within the company, but as an additional service to our clients, we produce bespoke websites for client events. The apprenticeship scheme is an excellent opportunity to train people at an early stage of their career. This is Matthew’s first job and it gives us a chance to develop his skills and work ethos where his values will be our values. Matthew eases the strain in the already busy IT department already proving to be a support asset to the company.”

Each employee who joins Venues Event Management goes through an initial three month training programme where they engage with each department of the company. This allows them to develop their understanding of the company and its different functionalities.

In 2011, Venues Event Management continued with their achievement of Investors in People with a Silver Accreditation. An organisation that has achieved Investors in People has been successful in adopting and maintaining its three fundamental principles: Plan - developing strategies to improve the performance of the organisation, from business goals to leadership strategies; Do - implementing those strategies, taking action to improve the performance of the organisation; Review - evaluating and adjusting those strategies, measuring their impact on the performance of the organisation.

Matthew comments on his first three months with the company: “Working with Venues Event Management is providing me with valuable on the job experience through the apprenticeship scheme. I am now in a position to assist the team with IT and web support and regularly carrying out updates on our own website with press releases and case studies where required. I am looking forward to the next nine months of my training programme and my future here at Venues Event Management."
