HotelsCombined: UK Travellers' Behaviour - Turkey down 11%, France remains strong; check protection

Leading global hotel comparison site, HotelsCombined.co.uk, offers comment on the behaviour of UK travellers subsequent to recent events in the UK, France and Turkey, and advice on how to book a great deal with confidence.

Dmitrijus Konovalovas, Country Manager for HotelsCombined UK & Ireland said: “Recent events in Nice and Turkey, as well as the closure of Lowcost Travel closer to home, are perhaps giving some holidaymakers pause for thought. However, as the schools get ready to break up for summer, searches over the past weekend suggest Brits are still planning to travel. We've seen an 11 % dip in searches for hotels in Turkey since Friday evening compared to the weekend before, but also recorded uplifts for Cyprus (up 21%), Spain (up 54%), Italy (up 57%) and - encouragingly - France (up 42%).

For those concerned about the strength of the Pound, there are still good value deals to be found in the Med and in places like Mexico and South Africa.

With package holidays, always book with an ATOL covered operator. ATOL (Air Travel Organisers Licensing) protection offers holidaymakers either a full refund, replacement travel or new dates of travel if something goes awry, all at no cost to them.  Also, book with a credit card. While doing so may increase the cost of a trip by 2.5%, travellers are then covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act which means they're protected should the holiday company, airline or hotel go out of business.

Finally, travellers should consider booking their flights and hotels directly. Using a price comparison site like HotelsCombined to find a refundable hotel deal can give  the option to cancel up to 24 hours before arrival without penalty – so if something does change, holidaymakers can rebook elsewhere without wounding their wallet.”
