Supported by The Meetings Show, the miaList recognises the individuals who inspire those around them, go above and beyond the call of duty and have a positive impact on their business. The awards are free to enter.
Calling out to industry, Jane Longhurst, chief executive of the mia, says, “People are at the heart of the meetings and events industry. It’s a sector that employs 530,000 and amongst these are the good, the very good and the absolutely fantastic. We want to learn more about and celebrate the individuals who have helped to make the UK meetings industry exceptional and hold them up as examples of excellence. It is not enough for them to just ‘do their job’. We want to know about the extra enthusiasm and dedication that produces exceptional outcomes.”
Any person working within meetings, hospitality or events in the UK or Ireland is eligible for the miaList 2016. They do not need to be members of the mia. The person nominating cannot nominate themselves.
Nominations will be assessed by a judging panel, who will select a shortlist. Those shortlisted candidates will then be invited to attend a judging lunch, where they will meet with the judges and participate in interviews.
The categories are as follows:

• Food & Beverage (Production) people
• Food & Beverage (Service) people
• Front of House people
• Sales people
• Marketing people
• Back of House people
• Rising Star
The Rising Star Award is for an individual who demonstrates great potential within their role or organisation. They should be professional, with exceptional customer service skills and inspire and encourage those around them. It is likely that they will have less than three years’ experience within the industry or your organisation.
• Leadership Award
The Leadership Award is for an individual who is nominated by their colleagues, who is a great leader, inspires and engages their team and who has a positive impact on their business or department. The nominee should have at least 3 years’ experience of operating and executive level.
• Team Award
The Team Award is for teamwork that has had a positive impact on the team’s business. This award will be shortlisted by the judges and then subject to a public, online vote. The QEII Centre’s chief executive, Mark Taylor, scooped the 2015 Leadership Award. He was nominated by his team, who praised ‘the difference he has made at his current venue, his commitment to the customer journey and the way he has galvanized his team to rebrand and reposition the venue’ during a time of major investment at the iconic venue in London’s Westminster.
Speaking about his award last year, Taylor said, “Having been in the industry for all these years, one has seen many fantastic high achievers receive such accolades. What I am particularly proud of is that this has come about from a nomination from my team. Venue management is of course a team sport.”
