Representatives from Showforce including their CEO Ian Spendlove and general manager Dave Bellamy had the opportunity to take part in a number of the programme’s key activities, including the ‘Britain in the Region event’ aimed at raising awareness of business opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa with specific focus on Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and the UAE.
The trade mission from the UK presented an outstanding opportunity for UK companies in the construction, infrastructure and creative services industries, to gain access to key decision makers and potential partners for a number of high value programmes in in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Delegates had access to key stakeholders on some of the region’s most significant developments including Expo 2020, extension projects at Al Maktoum and Abu Dhabi international airports, Saadiyat Island and UAE rail projects.
The programme was open to both 'new-to-market' companies from around the UK seeking to internationalise their businesses for the first time, and UK companies already operating in the UAE and beyond looking for new opportunities in the wider region. The event industry was well represented with delegates from Drive Productions, ES Global Ltd, Flux Creative Consultancy, Seeper Ltd and Stage Technologies all in attendance.
The GREAT Week also opened doors to exclusive networking receptions at the British Embassies in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Hosted by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the UAE Philip Parham, guests had the chance to meet with UAE based companies, support professionals, developers, potential agents and UK trade and investment directors and officials.
Showforce’s chief executive Ian Spendlove commented: “The whole trip was first rate, and the level of meetings, visits and networking opportunities was at a different level to any previous delegations Showforce has attended. The support, information and organisation from the UKTI team was unparalleled and made the whole experience not only highly enjoyable but incredibly worthwhile.”
“We [Showforce] are already well established in the region however with the development of Saadiyat Island, expansion of Yas Island and plans for Expo 2020 already gathering pace it is an exciting time to be in the UAE. We want to ensure that we are well placed to take advantage of all the opportunities available to us.”
