The BHA teams up with Tottenham Hotspur to deliver the next Big Conversation

The British Hospitality Association’s (BHA) national campaign The Big Hospitality Conversation has teamed up with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to generate job opportunities, work placements and apprenticeships in the hospitality sector for 16-24 year old Haringey residents.
Over 100 top business executives, of the hospitality and tourism industry will descend on White Hart Lane stadium on Tuesday 10th February to meet jobseekers in person and to offer employment advice, as well as real opportunities to kickstart new careers in the industry.

Household names including Costa, Hilton and Nandos will be pledging live job and training vacancies throughout the day, alongside Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s education and employment team who will be on hand to offer practical employability advice and guidance on gaining relevant qualifications, interview techniques and careers choices.

Delivered in partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, Department for Work and Pensions and Haringey Council, this year’s Big Hospitality Conversation is the first of its kind to be delivered in partnership with a Premier League football club. Previous events have generated over 38,000 job opportunities for young people in the hospitality and tourism industries.

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, the charitable arm of Tottenham Hotspur football club, has already created over 600 job opportunities for Haringey residents via jobs fairs, apprenticeship schemes and partner initiatives through a unique partnership with Haringey Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.

Ufi Ibrahim, CEO of the British Hospitality Association said: “Hospitality and tourism is just as competitive as football. Our Big Hospitality Conversation campaign is designed to attract the talent we need to compete internationally and to fulfill the growing number of vacancies resulting from our industry’s continuing growth. Like football scouts - hundreds of industry chief executives have committed to travelling across the country with us, to spot talent, and to share their experience and advice with jobseekers. Therefore, we could not have asked for a better partner than the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. We know there is latent talent in Tottenham, and we aim to find it”.

Donna Cullen, Executive Director, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, said: “Holding The Big Hospitality Conversation at White Hart Lane represents another significant step in the Club’s continued drive to create employment opportunities for local people, using the unique appeal of Tottenham Hotspur. Through our partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions and Haringey Council, we are proud to have created over 600 job opportunities in less than two years, and this figure will continue to rise as the sport-led regeneration of Tottenham takes place.

“The Big Hospitality Conversation is just one of the many jobs fairs and careers events that take place at White Hart Lane on a regular basis, and our award-winning Foundation is now increasing this offering to local people with the introduction of a state-of-the-art Digivan, which is Tottenham Hotspur-branded and fully equipped to provide a mobile careers and employment advice service that can access some of the most hard-to-reach groups within our community.”

Jacqui Allum, Director ,BHA, Big Hospitality Conversation said: “Hospitality and tourism is one of the fastest growing industries right now and it’s ideally placed to create new jobs in areas which traditionally have high levels of unemployment. We hope to see many local young people come along to the event to find out about what working in hospitality and tourism is all about from other young people and their employers. It’s a great chance to meet hundreds of well known hospitality businesses who will be actively recruiting for all kinds of positions for young talent on the day.”

The Big Hospitality Conversation is a nationwide campaign led by the British Hospitality Association in partnership with Springboard, Barclays, Believe in Young People, National Apprenticeship Service, and the DWP. It offers a commitment to creating job opportunities for 16-24 year olds. Given the right policy support from government, the British Hospitality Association is committed to facilitating the creation of 300,000 new hospitality jobs by 2020.

2015 sees an ambitious programme for The Big Hospitality Conversation campaign, which will seek to generate further job opportunities across the UK at venues including Nottingham, Sheffield, Newcastle, Swansea, Belfast, Lambeth, Cardiff, Hackney, Legoland, Llandudno, Dundee / Perth, Preston / Blackpool, Leeds, Birmingham, Exeter, Maidstone, and the Isle of Wight.
