momondo finds Thailand top destination for Christmas and New Year

Leading metasearch site today analysed its UK flight searches made over the last three months, for travel during this Christmas and New Year period, looking at planned departures from all UK airports within the period of 22nd of December and 5th of January, 2014.

Thailand’s capital Bangkok took first place, with Brits’ second most-popular choice for this October half-term period - New York, world-famous for its distinctive skyline.

Lasse Skole Hansen, Spokesperson at states: “Here at momondo we have found Bangkok to be consistently popular in 2014, having taken top spot as most-searched destination also for October half-term travel. Thailand offers the perfect escape, for those wanting tropical tan-lines, not turkey and tinsel. New York has remained popular too, from being overall second most-searched summer destination for Brits.”

24% of Brits spend more than they planned on holidays Christmas is a time for giving, but it is also a time for spending, as the consumer giants know all too well. It follows, that those going abroad this Christmas, may well find their bank accounts overdrawn. surveyed 1,000 Brits to find that whilst 59% spend the amount they planned to spend on holidays, 24% spend more than they planned and 7% even didn’t keep a track on spending.
