Steve Raw, Yachtsie founder and Managing Director said, “I’ve sailed all my life and have chartered many times. I was always shocked by how difficult the booking process was compared to the experience we’ve come to expect with flights, cars and hotels.”
Although sailing is a popular holiday activity, finding and booking the right boat can be a lot of work. There are a huge number of providers and most still use phone or email to take bookings.
Customers don’t have visibility into the range of boats and prices available, meaning it’s tough to make an informed choice. It’s very easy to end up overpaying, or aboard a sub-standard boat.
Yachtsie solves these problems by plugging directly into charter operators’ booking systems and making their information available online. Customers can search, compare and book over 2,000 yachts in locations across the globe, helping sailors to find the right boat, in the right location and at the right price.
However, Yachtsie isn’t just about technology. The team works closely with each of the 50 charter operators currently signed up to the service. Tom Guy, company Marketing Director said, “We rigorously check the quality of our operators’ boats and on-the-ground support. That way we can be sure our customers will have a great holiday experience.”
As Yachtsie develops, customers can expect to see a range of new features. In particular, the business is keen to make chartering a yacht more accessible to inexperienced sailors. Raw said, “Sailing holidays are fantastic fun but getting started can feel intimidating. We’re going to make it easy for less confident sailors to add a skipper to their charter, find their perfect itinerary and take out boat insurance. We hope to get lots more people out there enjoying the water.”
Those interested in Yachtsie can meet the team at the upcoming London Boat Show scheduled for January 9-18, 2015.
