ST James’ Park – home to Newcastle United Football Club – played host to conference and event staff from some of the country’s most prestigious venues when it hosted the annual Sodexo Prestige Venues & Events Sales Conference this month (15 October).
As well as hosting the event, the Sodexo Prestige team, which manages conferences and events at the Newcastle ground, also enjoyed a taste of victory – scooping one of the top awards of the night.
The one day event was attended by over 50 sales managers, general managers and directors from Sodexo Prestige around the UK, including Everton Football Club’s Goodison Park, The Churchill War Rooms in London, and Scotland’s Hampden Park, to discuss the strategy of the business after a strong financial year.
Following a presentation from Dave Wood, Head of Supplier Liaison at Capita Travel & Events, attendees took part in a Ready, Steady, Cook-style team building activity hosted by the Sodexo Prestige catering team at St James’ Park, led by executive head chef Robert Hendrix.
Each team was tasked with identifying 15 unusual dessert ingredients and then had to create and present two desserts within an hour.
However, the highlight was a glittering awards dinner in the stadium’s Chairman’s Suite, with Hampden Park and The Churchill War Rooms both winning the Sales Team of the Year Awards and Newcastle-based Area Sales Manager Samantha Doyle, scooping the Director’s Choice Award for England.
“I am thrilled to have won this award, which is a tribute not just to my hard work but to the effort and commitment of the entire Sodexo Prestige team at St James’ Park,” said Samantha.
“The stadium is far more than a football ground. It is one of the North’s leading conference and event venues and that would not be the case without the hard work of the entire Sodexo team.”

With the launch of Prestige Venues & Events and the new Central Enquiry Hub in the beginning of this year supported by strong performance by the venue sales teams, the business achieved a 10 per cent increase in sales year on year.
