CWT Meetings & Events commit to professional education programme for the Events Industry

CWT Meetings & Events has signed up members of their team to the eagerly anticipated Certified Meeting Professionals bootcamp that will take place at ExCeL London on 23rd and 24th September.
The bootcamp is being organised by MPI UK & Ireland and will be the UK's first ever training programme to support people working in the meetings industry to gain the long established and internationally recognised Certified Meeting Professional designation. The content is being produced by the UK Centre for Events Management at Leeds Metropolitan University who have significant experience in curriculum development specialising in events management for adults and working professionals.

Ian Cummings, Managing Director of CWT Meetings & Events UK & Ireland commented: "The industry has for some time lacked any credible programme of professional education for event planners which is readily available in other communication sectors. CWT Meetings & Events welcomes this initiative from MPI UK & Ireland and the involvement of our team members in this programme highlights our continued commitment to the professionalism of our people and the event sector. Many of our global team are already CMP qualified so extending this to the UK & Ireland team demonstrates our ability to deliver a consistently good service to our clients worldwide”.

There are over 14,000 event professionals worldwide that hold the CMP designation but the numbers that have successfully achieved the qualification in the UK is limited. MPI UK & Ireland have committed to an on-going programme of CMP based education in an effort to alter this landscape

Liz Rice, Director, Metro Broadcast and VP for Certification on the MPI UK and Ireland Board of Directors said: “It’s time that event sector professionals were given the credit they deserve. There are still many senior managers in large organisations that believe that anyone can successfully manage an event. We hope that in time that MPI UK & Ireland can help increase the numbers of event planners that hold the CMP designation and that the professionalism of this industry and those that work within it will be recognised by its peers”.

The bootcamp will be an intensive two days of specialist education for people working in the meetings industry. The mix of content will include strategic planning, project management, financial and risk management, marketing, site selection, HR and will enable planners to gain valuable Continuing Education (CE) credits as well as apply and prepare for the CMP exam.

Bookings for the CMP boot camp are open but spaces will be limited to a maximum of 30 participants.
