SECB Partners PCMA for Inaugural PCMA Singapore Meetings Advisory Forum

For the first time in Asia, Chicago-based Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) is organising its Meetings Advisory Forum in July 2014. Presented in partnership with the Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau (SECB), the inaugural forum is an educational conference that is specially curated with an Asian focus for industry leaders and key executives of associations. It also supports SECB’s efforts to boost the capabilities of local associations in the area of meetings management.

The firm partnership between PCMA and SECB, its only Asian partner, not only leverages Singapore’s strength as an international meetings hub but also reinforces Singapore’s thought-leadership position in the region.

The conference will see PCMA’s key senior personnel including Ms Deborah Sexton, President & CEO and Mr Johnnie White, Immediate Past Chairman of the Board, sharing their unique experiences in convention management on 15 July at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.

“PCMA’s mission is to deliver superior education to the industry at large. The SECB has been integral in helping expand that mission and bringing our education outside of the North American market,” said Ms. Sexton. “We’re confident this Forum will provide high-level learnings and insights these professionals couldn’t have gotten elsewhere.”

Around 40 association leaders will attend this by-invitation-only event, which will delve into current issues of the industry such as association business models, sponsorship generation and technology adoption.

“The global meetings industry is a very competitive one. We need to continue building local association capability and keep abreast of global meeting trends and best practices. We are confident that this partnership with PCMA, one of the leading education providers in the international meetings industry, will help us to meet this objective,” said Ms Neeta Lachmandas, Assistant Chief Executive of Business Development at the SECB.

“Last year, we successfully test-bedded a series of educational sessions targeting different segments of the meetings industry. From the feedback obtained, we have curated this year’s Forum to focus on global trends and best practices as well as address some of the pressing issues facing the Asian association sector. However, even as we learn from PCMA, we are also happy to share the Asian perspective with PCMA’s delegation of speakers.”

PCMA events are known for their innovative delivery and this Forum will be no different. SpotMe, a global mobile event app company, will leverage their technology to transform the Forum into an interactive, engaging experience that meets the planners’ educational, innovation and networking goals. Participants who download the SpotMe app will engage with moderators, advisors and each other through Q&A, audience segmentation voting, live tag clouds and focused table discussions.

"We're thrilled to be partnering with SECB and PCMA," Mr. Chris Bryant, Managing Director, SpotMe Asia Pacific, said from his Singapore office. "The Forum has such a strong agenda, and the SpotMe app will help attendees really be a part of the event. Digital segmentation, for example, will reveal opinion trends by industry or function and show how participants differ on key topics. Advisors can also use the app to curate and report back from table-led discussions, sharing attendees’ wisdom and creativity with the entire crowd.”

While the PCMA speakers are in town, they will also speak at the annual SACEOS Singapore MICE Forum, and conduct Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) Train-the-Trainer sessions so that MICE professionals here can train others to prepare for CMP accreditation. Singapore is currently PCMA’s first and only Asian partner for these CMP Train-the-Trainer sessions.

Ms. Janet Tan-Collis, President of Singapore Association of Conventions and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS) said, “We are pleased to work collaboratively with PCMA to advance the MICE industry by providing professional development opportunities for this sector. With PCMA’s programmes and expertise, there will be easier access to some of the world’s best MICE management programmes.”
