ATP Event Experts reports surge for authentic Scottish experiences during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games

Clients keen to trace their roots and find out more about their Scottish heritage via tailor made genealogy tours, rugby clinics and whisky tastings at distilleries are just a few of the more quintessentially Scottish experiences that have moved to the top of the list as corporate clients from around the Commonwealth and across the world make enquiries into what the ‘real’ Scotland has to offer.

With just less than two weeks to go until the starter’s pistol kicks off the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, specialist corporate travel and events business ATP Event Experts has reported an increase in requests from clients seeking authentically Scottish experiences. Event-bookers and corporate clients are opting for more traditional Scottish experiences alongside the usual components like accommodation, touring and dining.

The growth in requests has come as no surprise to ATP Event Experts who, for the past 18 months have had a dedicated on-the-ground team – now 20 strong – carrying out venue research and inspections of Scotland’s many historical sites, heritage themed hotels, dining venues and touring itineraries to ensure that the most desirable options were available to Commonwealth guests.

ATP Event Experts also revealed that 85 per cent of their overall ticket allocation has been snapped up by sport-mad Brits, followed closely Australia, India and Canada amongst other competing Commonwealth nations.

As the Glasgow 2014 Games Travel Office (GTO), ATP Event Experts will have dedicated teams embedded in Games HQ and The Athletes Village supporting the Organising Committee in key areas of delivery.  As the sole Spectator Packages provider, ATP Event Experts also manages and sells a range of spectator packages for the Games, providing a one-stop shop for visitors with combined options for tickets, accommodation and travel.

In fact, ATP Event Experts has sold thousands of packages including 4,000 room nights across 17 different hotels; numbers which place the business as one of the leading sports experience companies in Europe.

Neil Pace, Head of UK Event Operations at ATP Event Experts and Senior Project Manager GTO explains: "Our events team has been preparing for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games for over two years and we’re confident that our clients who choose to explore Glasgow and Scotland during the Games will enjoy a warm welcome and a taste of Scottish hospitality that they won’t soon forget.”
