The Skills Show Experience, which will take place on June 17-18 at Aintree Racecourse, will welcome 6,000 14-24 year olds, all of which will be offered industry advice by many local businesses from across a diverse range of sectors..
Chairman of Liverpool Hoteliers Association James Rush believes that the event will help to further engage with local teens and young adults, as well as guiding them in the right direction when it comes to future career prospects.
He said: “We are delighted to be working alongside L20 Hotel School to deliver this unique occasion to the local community and surrounding areas. LHA as a group is very much looking forward to sharing our wealth of knowledge to aspiring entrepreneurs and business people of the future.
“We hope that as a result of our guidance, we will encourage young people to broaden and expand on their learning activity and make positive career choices.”
As well as engaging in one-to-one conversations throughout the event, visitors can also take part in a wide variety of ‘Have a Go’ opportunities that have been specially supported by LHA & L20 Hotel School. In order to offer a more hands-on approach, the two organisations will provide an array of interesting and challenging activities, which will offer a taste of those present in the hospitality industry.
James added: “These will include cocktail making through to DJ spinning, or even smoothie making whilst riding a bike – all of which are designed to give the young people, or as I call them - the next generation, a chance to get a feel for the industry and help them find the right career.”
Mike Mounfield, Director of the L20 Hotel School and himself a former chef, added: “For too many years some people have viewed working in hospitality as a part time or Saturday job, the L20 Hotel School and the Liverpool Hoteliers Association are working hard to change this perception to make people aware of the varied opportunities that currently exist in the region's hotels.
“A career in hospitality provides young people not only with transferable skills suitable for a range of job roles, but it can also provide the opportunity to travel, meet lots of exciting people and above all have a great time doing it. With the growth of the Liverpool City Region’s visitor economy, there has never been a better time to join this exciting and vibrant industry.”
The Skills Show Experience at the International Festival for Business 2014 will take place at Aintree Racecourse from 9am on Tuesday, June 17 and Wednesday, June 18.
