ABPCO’s membership drive to focus on in-house PCOs

The Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO) is focusing its membership drive on in-house PCOs, especially those working in the association, membership and not for profit sectors.
ABPCO has seen membership increase 25% in the past year, but it is keen to attract more members from organisations operating outside of the corporate meeting and events industry.  /span>

Examples of in-house PCOs who are currently members of ABPCO include those working for UCAS, The Stroke Association, Institution of Chemical Engineers, National Union of Students and The Law Society of Scotland.

Daphne Llewellyn Davies is Business Development Manager for Campden BRI, the UK’s largest independent membership based organisation carrying out research and development for the food and drinks industry. She says: “ABPCO membership is important because the work of an in-house PCO can be quite a lonely experience.  Being part of an organisation such as ABPCO provides the opportunity to get together with other people to find out what is going on. It’s also a chance to get myself up to speed with the latest training and thought leadership behind being a PCO. It’s an organisation which is professional, friendly and outreaching.”

Jennifer Jenkins, Chairman of ABPCO comments: “In-house PCOs are a key target for ABPCO as we seek to increase our membership. They play a vital role within their individual organisations but we recognise that they may not see themselves as being a part of the meeting and events industry. Our aim is to help them by highlighting the resources available to members of a professional organisation such as ABPCO, and the benefits it offers to their everyday role.”

“We already have a number of members from well known not for profit, membership and association organisation but we want to see this grow. Membership of ABPCO is a great way to keep in touch with the latest industry trends and best practice.  It can also help raise an individual PCO’s profile within their organisation as it demonstrates a high standard of professionalism. We hope that more in-house PCOs will consider membership and look forward to welcoming them into our organisation.”

Membership is open to UK conference and event organisers working across all spectrums of the industry. ABPCO is the only UK based meetings industry associations to select Full and Associate Members based on peer assessment, ensuring the credibility of the individuals bearing the ABPCO name.
