Eventia-IVCA launches major industry research

Eventia-IVCA has today launched its annual research into the UK meetings and business events sector, the 21st consecutive year in which the research has been undertaken. Entitled the ‘UK Events Market Trends Survey’ (UKEMTS), this major research project has a specific focus on the size and volume of the market and the performance of meeting venues. It also highlights key market trends identified by venues.

Results will be published in June 2014 – they provide the definitive insight into the business events sector and are widely used to inform investment, advocacy and marketing activities.

The survey asks venues to provide data on their conference and events business during the calendar year 2013, and includes questions on the number of events held, rates achieved, event duration and size, client type, investment plans, together with projections for business in 2014. New for 2014 are questions on:
• Competition from other UK and overseas destinations and venues
• Trends in the design of meeting spaces within venues
• Secure environments and confidentiality issues
• Quality standards and accreditation
• Customised meeting packages
• Green and sustainability credentials

All UK business event venues are being encouraged to participate, with both online and ‘Word’ versions of the questionnaire available. Those which complete the questionnaire will receive a complimentary, personalised report enabling them to benchmark their performance against other comparable venues. Business Tourism for Scotland is a new, industry-led collaborative partnership, tasked with driving the growth of Business Tourism, a key aspect of the Tourism Scotland 2020 strategy. Judy Rae of Glasgow Science Centre leads the industry team: 11 people representing a spread by geography and activity. Key stakeholders Scottish Enterprise and VisitScotland play a full part and support the Scottish Tourism Alliance to provide project management. Business Tourism for Scotland is actively supporting the UKEMTS 2014 research: “UKEMTS provides an important reference source for measurement and identifying trends in business tourism in Scotland; we will use it to help steer the sector’s plans for delivering growth over the coming years. We will be doing everything we can to encourage the industry to complete the surveys and provide a robust evidence base,” said Judy Rae, Head of Events at Glasgow Science Centre.
