Richard King to take over as Grass Roots Group Non-Executive Chairman

Grass Roots, the world’s leading provider of employee and customer engagement solutions, announces today that Richard King will be taking over as Grass Roots Group Non-Executive Chairman with effect from 1st February 2014. Nat Solomon, who has been Acting Chairman since David Evans’ retirement as Executive Chairman in 2013, will continue as a Director in a non-executive capacity.

Richard King joined as a non-executive Director for the Grass Roots Group PLC in January 2013 and in the last year has been intimately involved in the significant responsibilities associated with Group Board decisions. 2013 has seen a broad scale structural reconfiguration of the business and associated appointments, such as that of Richard Bandell as CEO. King has brought extensive experience, enormous knowledge and expertise to the Board during a busy time.

King has a varied portfolio of Board appointments with fast-growth listed, private and not-for-profit businesses. From 1975 Richard was with Ernst & Young – one of the world’s leading professional services firms. He became the youngest audit partner in the UK in 1986 and worked in various capacities specialising in providing advice to fast-growth entrepreneurial businesses. Rising through the ranks over the next two decades, he became Managing Partner UK & Ireland in 2006 and Deputy Managing Partner in 2009 after successfully integrating the London and UK & Ireland business units.

With the creation of the new Executive Leadership Team, which comprises the heads of each of the four global company divisions, representatives for Technology and People, and the usual executive roles, Grass Roots has a renewed focus on its core strategic priorities. This senior team will now steer the company forward towards its objectives and targets.

Richard King comments, ‘After a year of significant change within the Grass Roots Group, the company is now well placed to take advantage of its scale and market-leading position. I very much look forward to overseeing the next stage of its development. We have a strong executive team in place and I am eager to be a part of the exciting plans for future growth. ‘

Richard Bandell, Grass Roots CEO, thanks Nat Solomon for his interim support and looks ahead to the future: ‘Our sincere thanks to Nat Solomon for stepping up and carrying out the role of Acting Chairman over the last year. Nat’s unrivalled experience and industry knowledge are greatly valued and we are delighted that he will continue as a non-executive Director alongside David Evans, David Hackett and the non-executive representatives from our major shareholder, WPP PLC. We also welcome Richard King’s appointment as Non-Executive Chairman on the Group Board. His involvement and expertise have made a very positive impact over the last 12 months, and I look forward to continuing the excellent working relationship that Richard has fostered between the Executive Leadership Team and the Group Board.‘
