New Visit Belfast Welcome Centre opens

The new Visit Belfast Welcome Centre, at Donegall Square North in Belfast City Centre, was officially opened on Thursday 12 December by the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment Arlene Foster MLA.

The innovative visitor information centre uses the latest technology to promote and sell the wide range of tourism products and experiences that Belfast and Northern Ireland has to offer.

Visitors and locals can discover Belfast’s story, brought to life on plasma screens, read about major attractions on self-serve touch screens or watch product promotional videos on the 16 screen video wall. Visit Belfast will continue to offer a ‘one stop shop’ for events, tickets, brochures and accommodation information, enhanced with new features, including interactive digital maps of the city and Northern Ireland.

Shoppers can pick up distinctive presents and souvenirs from the gift shop, while travel advisors can recommend things to see and do in Belfast and beyond.

With free WiFi available, users can also access and download information straight to their mobile devices, making it easier to plan their time in Belfast.

The accessible, ground floor location replaces the former Belfast Welcome Centre premises in Donegall Place. Visit Belfast staff are expecting to deal with more than 400,000 visitor enquiries in the new building’s first year of operation.

The new centre is located at 8-9 Donegall Square North, opposite Belfast City Hall.

The £1.82 million investment in the new Welcome Centre is part of Belfast City Council's Investment Programme 2012-2015. This project has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland, and administered by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
