Strong dollar, weak euro impact on British travel pattern

European destinations are more attractive to the UK the exchange rate is in the pound sterling’s favour and they offer value for money.
The US dollar, however, is strong, Britain continues to regard the USA as an attractive destination and numbers of visitors going there are holding up, but the spend per visitor from the UK is down.

The Westin Jekyll Island Center to anchor new
 convention complex

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. have announced
plans to open a Westin hotel in Jekyll Island, Georgia as a key element
of the Jekyll Island redevelopment project.
The owners and co-developers
of the project, New Castle Hotels & Resorts and Jekyll Landmark
Associates, expect to break ground on the new Westin this summer, with
an anticipated opening in February 2014. The Westin Jekyll Island will
feature 200 rooms, ample meeting facilities and the full suite of Westin
signature amenities and services designed to help guests leave feeling
better than when they arrived.

The Goodnight campaign will complete the experience of delegates in the city, providing them with recommendations for event spaces with panoramic views, restaurants and bars in which to wind down after a conference or host gala dinners, the best accommodation, as well as attractions from which to view the city’s skyline and sunsets as part of a social itinerary.

London Oxford Airport welcomes Fly Vectra, the UK’s newest business aviation operator

Fly Vectra, the UK's newest business aviation charter operator, has just set up home at London Oxford Airport.  The company obtained its Air Operator's Certificate in early February, within six months of applying to the UK CAA, achieving a ‘compliance plus’ rating.   Initially offering a Cessna Citation Excel for third party charter, the seven-seat jet will be joined by two brand new aircraft, a eight seat Cessna XLS+ with Wifi, due to arrive by May this year and a Latitude, Cessna’s newest, mid-size 2,300 nm range model, scheduled to make its debut in 2015.   Fly Vectra will be the first UK operator of this type.
