Nick Jones of Nexus Collection tells Sydney Paulden how he is now bagging the Asian marketsITCM has been using Nexus laptop briefcases for some time. I complained to Nick Jones, founder and owner of Nexus Collection, when I met him at International Confex 2012, that they last too well and so I’m not allowed to have a new one.
Nick is constantly expanding the range of bags on offer.
‘Not only are the bags made in China under the strictest personal supervision for quality’, says Nick, ‘but I have now actually bought the factory in China, so the buck stops with me.’ A major success for Nexus has been its Sustainable Range of bags. These are made basically from jute and use sustainable resources such as bamboo. Nexus also now makes considerable use of plastic from recycled bottles.
‘These have been very well received all over the world’, Nick confirms. ‘We have also introduced Sublimation Printing, a 4-colour process, to produce very attractive ranges. Clients have ordered everything from conference bags with their own brightly coloured logos to exhibition bags bearing images of their venues or iconic pictures of their destinations, such as the Sydney Opera House.’
The result is that Nexus is now selling 500,000 bags a year. ‘Mostly UK’, he agrees, ‘but about 20% in Europe and we are finding growing markets further afield.’ There is now Nexus Asia which sells back to the UK, but also markets through distributors in Australia, the Middle East and the USA. Then, showing how much he believes in the future of the product in those areas, he adds: ‘I personally am shortly moving out to live in Hong Kong for two years’.
