MEP Destination Management created a unique eventThere’s an old bridge across the Golden Horn in the middle of Istanbul. A new one is built, making the old one redundant. What do you do with the old one?
Well, if you are MEP Destination Management, a leading Turkish DMC, you see it as the best possible stage for an event. In October 2011, MEP used it for the gala evening at the end of a 4-day incentive programme.
As many as 900 people, who were accommodated in the nearby Four Seasons, Kempinski and Ritz Carlton hotels, dined on the bridge and watched a colourful show of singing and dancing. The party’s fireworks were visible from all over the city – and the delegates and organisers went home knowing that they had enjoyed an incomparable and unique treat.
Director and co-owner of MEPTUR, parent of MEP Destination Management, is Birgül Özden and she was very happy to tell ITCM at her booth on the Turkish stand at EIBTM that 2011 has been another great highly successful year. ‘MICE business is very buoyant in Turkey’, she said. ‘Istanbul is a big attraction for conferences and incentives and a range of other destinations in Turkey are growing in popularity.
Cappadocia, in the centre of the country, has some beautiful new boutique hotels . We have just taken a group of 80 couples on a very enjoyable visit there. A big attraction are the amazingly colourful rock formations that have been shaped into all kinds of patterns by the winds. There are also fantastic temples and houses cut into the rocks.’
Birgül also picked out Cesme as another place to watch. It is on the coast near Izmir and can offer beaches, great climate, ancient cultural sites and superb food in quaint restaurants.
‘Turkey’, she concluded, ‘is growing in popularity because of its good value for money, its range of different experiences and constant investment in new MICE facilities’.
ITCM knows from personal experience that a good DMC is vital in Turkey – and that MEP opens doors that may be closed to others.
