Outstanding new properties for Mauritius and Amsterdam

Mark Spivey, Director of International Sales Uk Office, Maritim Hotels

Mark Spivey brings ITCM up-to-date on Maritim’s news

Mark Spivey is always a fount of up-to-date news and views on the MICE scene. He is Director of International Sales at the UK office of Maritim Hotels and I visited his stand at IMEX 2015. This German family-owned group can offer quality properties in nearly 40 locations in Germany and a constantly growing number of other countries. These include Egypt, Malta, Mauritius, Spain and Turkey.

Mark was particularly keen to talk about the imminent arrival of Maritim in the Netherlands. Maritim Hotel Amsterdam is rising on the skyline of the trendy Overhoeks District of the capital, on the river bank.

‘With 32 storeys’, he says, ‘it will be the tallest hotel in the city and the 579 suites and rooms will have spectacular views. There will be a Sky Bar and six restaurants. The hotel’s conference facilities will be able to cater for up to 4,750 delegates and will have a range of break-out rooms.’

He emphasises that the group’s city hotels always offer plentiful accommodation with spacious meeting facilities so that events can be comfortably self-contained within the property. Cuisine is also an area in which Maritim puts a lot of thought and effort to ensure that guests from all parts of the world are properly catered for.

‘We have Indian chefs in our hotels in Germany and they have the detailed knowledge to set up food serving stations expressly, for example, to meet the special needs of Parsees and followers of Jainism. To satisfy the growing number of groups from the Indian market, it is essential to understand all the distinctions of different shades of religion in terms of food and drink’.

Mark is very aware of the potential in the new MICE markets. ‘I go to Brazil three times a year’, he points out. ‘That is a huge country with very specific needs and it is essential to get to know it well and to maintain close contact.’

Maritim has long been established in Mauritius and has now added a second property, the 4-star Maritim Crystals Beach Hotel. In contrast to the new Amsterdam hotel, this comprises ten buildings, no more than three storeys high, with a total of 181 rooms. It boasts a km-long beach. Its three air-conditioned event rooms include a 323sqm ballroom. Catering is provided by a buffet-style main restaurant, three a-la-carte restaurants and two bars.

‘Whatever an organisers requires, we can provide it’, comments Mark. ‘We can offer golf, beach, city, spa destinations for every kind of event’.
