Emma Boynton, Head of Sales & Marketing, talks to ITCMLots of venues make dubious claims to be ‘located very centrally’, but there is no doubt that this is a genuine claim by Emma Boynton on behalf of imago.
Emma is Head of Sales and Marketing for imago, which is the umbrella name for the wide range of facilities offered at the University of Loughborough.
Convenience and ease of access are important aspects offered by imago, as it is not only very central to the UK in Leicestershire, but it is in a comparatively quiet region of the country with every means of transport close by. It is alongside the M1, 8 miles from East Midlands Airport and 3 miles from Loughborough’s mainline train station with direct links to London St Pancras.
‘And’, emphasises Emma, ‘imago offers a total of 418 acres. It’s difficult to imagine an event that couldn’t find a suitable configuration for its needs. We are now aiming at offering it more widely on an international level’.
The name imago is a word that describes the state in which a caterpillar metamorphoses into a butterfly and was chosen to demonstrate transformation and development. It is the commercial interface between event organisers and the university.
‘We can offer’, says Emma, ‘all the modern lecture, sports and accommodation facilities of an academic establishment out of term time. But, very importantly, all year round we also have excellent facilities dedicated to events for outside clients. These include Burleigh Court, Holywell Park and the Link Hotel.
Burleigh Court is a 4-star hotel with 225 ensuite rooms to suit different budget levels. They all have TV with in-house movie channels, a large study desk with internet access as well as hair dryer, trouser press, iron and ironing board and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Guests can use the Burleigh Springs Leisure and Spa Centre. There are 26 meeting rooms and 150sqm of exhibition space Holywell Park has a large exhibition area that is used for product launches and networking events and nine versatile meeting rooms and a lecture theatre for 160 delegates.
The Link Hotel was a Quality Inn until recently, when it was taken over by the university.
‘It is a good 3-star property with 94, air-conditioned en-suite bedrooms’, says Emma. She then goes on to point out that ‘the university has 16,000 students, so out of term time there are huge facilities available to event organisers. The Sports Hall, for example, can accommodate 2,000 delegates’.
In addition to a convenient, central location and a wide range of facilities, imago can offer packages that will hardly burst anyone’s budget. ‘Our Day Delegate Rate ranges from £27 to £63’, she says.
