I found myself at the Goodwood Park Hotel in Singapore expecting 65 delegates who, because of the flight cancellations during the ash crisis, within 24 hours were reduced to 19. I lost 8 speakers for my conference and had to change all accommodation, f&b requirements and the programme overnight. Fortunately, the hotel was crawling with stranded people who couldn't return home from Singapore, so we were not penalised at all over room allocation and simply let ours go to accommodate them.

Wyboston came to the rescue of Thomson and First Choice

Vital training for dozens of representatives for leading holiday operator Thomson and First Choice was at risk because of the 'ash' crisis – until conference and training venue Wyboston Lakes provided the base they needed.

Groups of the representatives were due to fly out to four destinations on Thursday 15th April for their training, which normally happens abroad. But when their flights were grounded, Thomson and First Choice didn’t want to delay the training and put its award-winning customer service at risk … and needed somewhere for them to stay until flights became available once again. So the company called Wyboston Lakes to see if the venue - the UK’s largest privately owned single site residential conference location - could provide immediate facilities.

Global debate on the future of the retail industry postponed until October  

Retail industry leaders from across the globe were set to congregate in Berlin this week, but The World Retail Congress has been postponed until October. It is the biggest annual gathering of the global retail industry, but the speakers and participants struggled to reach Berlin ahead of the scheduled first day on Wednesday 21st April.

From Zibrant: “We don't make a drama out of a crisis”
