Blackpool increases its event business

VisitBlackpool has secured several new conference bookings during the first quarter of 2010, delivering an estimated total economic benefit of £5m.
Blackpool continues to invest in business tourism and reports that events returning to Blackpool, worth £20m to the town, include the International Fitness Experience, the Pigeon Weekend, Royal Air Force Association and Blackpool Magic Convention.


The famous Pigeon Weekend, which brings up to 20,000 visitors to the town, is hosted by RPRA (Royal Pigeon Racing Association). International Fitness Experience is a two night weekend conference in March, which is growing year on year, with numbers now reaching 5,000.
Blackpool Magic Convention is a two-night convention, which attracts international as well as national artists, usually in the region of 3,000 to 4,000.
The first half of 2010 has started positively for Blackpool, with not only a place in the Premiership for its football team, but with the council ready to finalise the £40m deal to acquire Blackpool Tower and the Winter Gardens venue from the present owners, Leisure Parks.
The 2010 statistics area already showing that confidence is returning to business tourism coastal towns such as Blackpool.  With 4,120 delegates alone using hotels, 45,700 using The Winter Gardens, 1,085 using the Attractions and 50,905 delegates for the year already, the town’s business tourism continues to improve.
