ADNEC, the Government of Abu Dhabi's National Exhibition Centre, is known for thinking big, witness the extensive facilities nearing completion in its home country. Having bought ExCel in May 2008 for an estimated total investment of £350m, ADNEC has revealed plans to increase the size of the propertyl by over 50%. It will offer 100,000 sqm of space, equivalent to 14 football pitches. This is good news for event organisers globally and also for Britain's Olympic organisers, as ExCel is to be the venue for seven sporting events in 2012.
The plans include a link to the Prince Regent DLR station, additional bars and restaurants, underground parking, and a new 5000-seat auditorium.
Kevin Murphy, chief executive of ExCeL London says: 'This development again confirms ExCel as a world class venue that will continue to attract major global events'.
