Southport's busy November
Southport Theatre & Convention Centre has spent £40m on improvements, most of which went towards the Floral Hall, now one of the largest and best equipped locations in the North West. There is already proof that it was money well spent. In November 2008 alone there will be four important events held in the Hall. They are the National Child Minding Association Conference, the North West Regional Labour Party Conference, the Royal College of Nursing's Occupational Health nursing conference and the North West Regional Irish Dancing Championships. Over 500 childcare delegates will have a weekend of motivating speakers, including Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families, Beverley Hughes MP, at the National Child Minding Association annual conference. (November 7-9).
A couple of weeks later, Beverley Hughes will return to Southport as MP for Stretford and Urmston as the North West Regional Labour Party Conference comes to town (November 21-23) and will feature speeches from cabinet ministers James Purnell MP and Andy Burnham MP. Days later (November 25-27), the Royal College of Nursing's Occupational Health nursing conference and exhibition is in town for the first time.
As well as conferencing, the Floral Hall is also set for some serious dance action during November. Dancers will take to the floor as part of the North West Regional Irish Dancing Championship qualifier for the World Irish Dancing Championships. (November 28-30). Maxine McCarthy, Conference and Corporate Sales Manager for Sefton Council, says: 'With the Ramada hotel due to open very shortly, the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre will no doubt see a rise in high profile guests.'
