Dubai's Jumeirah, the luxury hotel firm and owners of the iconic Burj Al Arab, has announced plans to change the Glasgow skyline with a new 5-star hotel. The property will be Jumeirah's fifth hotel in Europe and will follow many of the blueprints used on the Burj Al Arab. It will stand 25 storeys high and will be situated in Glasgow's International Financial District near the high-end shopping areas and is scheduled to open in 2011. Guests will enjoy a range of leisure facilities, which include an infinity pool, Jumeirah's signature Talise Wellness spa, gym, rooftop cocktail lounge and a choice of restaurants and bars.
Extensive business and conference amenities will be supplemented by a 630-seat ballroom and a dedicated club lounge. The hotel will contain 160 luxury guest rooms and suites with a further 85 apartments for an extended visit. The deal was signed by Charles Price, CEO of Progress Property Development, and Guy Crawford, CEO Jumeirah, who both describe it as an exciting development and believe it will make Glasgow even more attractive as it has the UK's only operating Jumeirah outside London.
