Le Meridien Barcelona unveils 30m-euro facelift

After a long period of renovation which has involved an investment of 30m euros, Le Meridien Barcelona is unveiling its new main entrance. The reception and lobby area have been redesigned in a modern style that harmonises with the 1950s hand wrought iron staircase and the building's Neo-Classical facade.
Special features include natural wood chairs that replicate Antonio Gaudí's work, contemporary designer lamps, natural leather sofas in vibrant colours such as fire-engine red, and a ceiling of Modernist inspiration with tiny mosaic stones echoing the waves of the Mediterranean.
A huge expressionist wall mural welcomes guests on their arrival at the hotel. Its creator, artist Lourdes Vazquez, wanted to portray a contemporary and modern depiction of Barcelona.

A new feature is the strategic location in the lobby of a cafeteria. The lobby leads to the Salon Lounge - a new 230-seat facility for banquets and meetings, located on the main floor of the hotel a few yards from the Reception. A clear glass skylight provides natural daylight. One floor down is Espai Barcelona, which complements the meeting and banqueting facilities, a total of 238sqm that can easily be divided into 5 meeting rooms, all equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The meetings area is rounded off by the Salón Fortuny, with a permanent oval boardroom table for up to 20 people. The investment has also added a small gym.
This 5-star hotel on the Barcelona Rambla in the heart of the city now has a total of 233 bedrooms and suites.
