Nira Alpina, Switzerland opens for its first summer season
Nira Alpina is welcoming guests for its first summer season from 15th June. Offering an enviable location, with views over Lake Silvaplana, Nira Alpina is perfectly situated for those wanting outdoor activities, a breath of alpine air and a plethora of events to choose from this summer.Flanked by turquoise lakes and snow-capped peaks, Nira Alpina is moments from spectacular walking and biking routes. The Corvatsch cable car, takes guests directly from the hotel to high-altitude walks on the Piz Corvatsch (3,300m), where numerous hiking trails commence and the famous Glacier Grotto is located. Seasoned cyclists can choose from 400km of mountain biking trails.
For those who prefer to discover this unspoilt scenery on horseback, horses are kept at the Hossmann riding stables in nearby Champfer.
For sailing, swimming or windsurfing, guests of Nira Alpina should head for the lakes. Lake Silvaplana is celebrated as one of the top spots in Europe for windsurfing and kite surfing and is rapidly becoming the place to be seen for adrenalin-seekers. The location for the Engadinwind windsurfing competition, the lake is blessed by the mighty Maloja wind and strong thermal currents which create the perfect environment for the sport.
The strong winds are also ideal for sailing and international championships are held here every year, while the local river Inn offers world-class white-water rafting in otherwise impenetrable gorges.
Mountain climbers can challenge themselves with the notorious fixed-rope Senda dal Diavel route or attempt the summit of the devilish 3,901m Piz Palu, accessed only by traversing the crevasses of the Pers Glacier with crampons, pick-axes and ropes.
Known as the ‘festival hall of the Alps’ and popular with famous personalities of arts and cultural fame, such as Richard Wagner, Friedrich Nietzsche and Thomas Mann – it is no surprise that the Engadin Valley is a culture hotspot too. From music festivals, to art and literature days, there is something cater for every taste.
After a day spent soaking up mountain air, return to the smell of freshly baked bread at Nira Alpina’s bakery and treat yourself to an apple strudel or a cupcake or two. At the Stars restaurant, enjoy world cuisine with panoramic views out over the mountains. Watch the sunset with a night cup at the rooftop bar, where the mixologists use homemade infusions, liquors and essences.
For alpine pampering, the Nira Spa promotes well-being through a range of innovative treatments using spa brands Alpiene and Spiezia Organics. The colour enhancing relaxation room, the striking mosaic-lined whirlpool with underwater beds and large sauna guarantee a luxury spa haven.
This summer in the Engadin is set to be an exciting one, with Nira Alpina promising pleasure before protocol and fun before formality. Plan your visit around one of the Valley’s events, whether it is Festival da Jazz from 12th July – 12th August, the Engadin Summer Run on 19th August 2012 or Engadinwind 2012 from 9th – 12th August.
