Spa guests can indulge in opulent treatments thanks to planning permission
Lavish treatments will be on offer at a new luxury spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel after planning permission was granted for an extension to the historic existing building. The planning approval means that The Spa at Bedford Lodge, which is being built in the 19th century Rockfield House, will now be able to offer extensive hydrotherapy and thermal treatments.
Bedford Lodge Chief Executive Noel Byrne said: “We are ecstatic that the planning has been approved for the extension, as it means that we will now be able to offer even more treatments and elements, enhancing our product and the guest experience even further. This is a very exciting time for the hotel and we are thrilled that this is going ahead.”
Visitors to the spa, set to open early next year, will also be able to indulge in other treatments like Hammam, a rejuvenating Turkish bath which aims to take away all the stresses of modern life. The spa will also feature a relaxing hot tub and hydrotherapy pool as well as shoulder massage fountains, while treatments such as various body massages and facials along with luxury manicures and pedicures will also be available.
Mr Byrne added: “Our aim is to provide visitors with an opulent experience that they will not be able to find elsewhere in the area.”
Scheduled to open in the spring of next year, the spa development will lead to around 40 jobs when completed. It has already provided a number of employment opportunities during the building works.
Simon Batey, Forest Heath’s Strategic Tourism Development Officer, said the spa is a welcome addition to the Bedford Lodge Hotel complex and will provide an economic boost for Newmarket and the surrounding area.
He added: "In terms of job creation, this is extremely good news for the town. It’s likely that other leisure and retail facilities in the area will also benefit from passing trade from the spa’s visitors. In addition, it’s pleasing to note that the spa will offer a high end product which is sure to have a positive impact on the town.”
The four-star Bedford Lodge Hotel is currently undergoing a separate £4.5 million expansion programme to include the creation of 22 new bedrooms, with at least 25 further jobs to be introduced at the hotel as a result.
