Swiss Development Group launches 51º Spa Residences - the world's first in-home thermal water spa

Switzerland’s leading property developer, Swiss Development Group has announced the launch of its latest luxury development, 51º Spa Residences in Leukerbad. Named after the highest temperature of the thermal water the region is famed for, 51º Spa Residences will offer a world class thermal spa hotel & residences surrounded by the dramatic alpine backdrop of Switzerland’s famed Valais region. Working in collaboration with the world’s leaders in architecture and design, Swiss Development Group have enlisted Michael Graves & Associates, Marc Michaels Interior Design and water consultants WET to envision this landmark Swiss development.

51º Spa Residences will break ground in spring 2012 and by its completion be the ultimate five star, four season resort destination. A phased development, Building A will be completed by end of 2013 offering 9 luxury apartments averaging 230 Sq metre, followed by Building B offering 21 luxury serviced apartments from late 2014.

Key features of the residences will be the exclusive in-home thermal spas, with unlimited supply to Leukerbad’s renowned thermal waters, the wrap-around terraces and grand stone fireplaces that can be found both in and outside as well as thermal water Moon Bath pools on the balconies. Additional amenities for the residences include The Resident’s Club, wine bar, private wine cave, ski valet, children’s club and private Banya Experience Spa. Owners will also have access to ‘Rockefeller Living’, an exclusive club offering its members a comprehensive array of luxury lifestyle services, only available to owners of Swiss Development Group properties.

At the forefront of architecture for decades past, reputed Michael Graves & Associates received the commission to outline a new architectural meaning to mountain living at 51º Spa Residences, where nature and luxury will interact like no other place in the world. Celebrating the serenity of thermal water and the region’s special character, the extraordinary development will appear to be carved out of the rock of the mountains and rise against the backdrop of the landscape. The structural design will allow the buildings to mirror the resort and its surrounding area, combining state of the art architecture with thermal water in an ecologically forward and beautiful environment.

Capturing the resources and natural beauty of Leukerbad, Marc Michaels Interior Design will offer a contemporary yet unexpected design vision encompassing materials like polished metals and smooth leather. The calm surroundings and beauty of the natural materials will capitalize on the landscape environment and take precedence over complex designs. Keeping interiors local and unique to Leukerbad, the design will be in harmony with the earth’s elements and its locale allowing for a one of a kind experience.

With water as the natural and evident central theme, award-winning WET will unleash the nature of water and assist in bringing its magic to life. Best known for the fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas and hundreds of architectural water features worldwide, WET will now add to its portfolio by designing a spectacular crystalline fountain, symbolising fire and ice for the central plaza between the hotel and residences, adding new character to the Swiss village.

The final phase of the development will include a 5-star hotel in collaboration with a world-class operator. In addition to a private concierge, high end restaurants and upscale retail outlets, the adjacent hotel will offer a 900 Sq M thermal spa & wellness centre in collaboration with Banya Experience Spa, with a full range of wellness experiences and recreational activities. One of the most unique features will be the Banya Suite, a traditional Russian heath therapy experience connected to an indoor / outdoor bathhouse. The hotel and spa will be completed in 2015.

Nicolas Garnier, CEO of Swiss Development Group said: ‘51º Spa Residences is the embodiment of not only creating a luxury hotel and residences but going beyond this to generate a one of a kind living environment in the Swiss Alps, for each season of the year. This development celebrates the unique aspects of Leukerbad which come to life through leading visionaries in design and architecture, setting a new standard for niche luxury living environments.’
