Michelle Chenery reports on a stay at the CorinthiaPrague is an extremely popular destination for corporate groups. The hotel that was chosen by ITCM would add interest and depth to anyone’s visit to the Czech capital. It is a visitor attraction in itself, as well as offering all that an organiser could require for a successful event. The Corinthia Hotel Prague was formerly the Forum Hotel and was one of the last buildings to be designed and constructed by the army during the Communist regime. It is one of the two remaining today. This accounts for the quirky elements I discovered around the property.
With the Prague Congress Centre just across the road, the car park at the hotel was built to act as a nuclear shelter. This would offer a safe haven to any foreign delegates in the event of the cold war hotting up.
I also learned that every room in the hotel was said to be bugged during its construction and that there was a central surveillance unit.
Corinthia Hotel Prague is well located within five minutes of Prague's historic city centre. It is linked by a walkway and a subway from the Vysehrad metro straight to the congress centre. There are 539 air-conditioned rooms, including 66 Executive Rooms and 22 Suites. They all have a safe, mini-bar, Wi-Fi and cable internet access, Corinthia Dream Beds, LCD HD TV with 75 local and international channels, a choice of 40 films and an interactive wake-up call function. There are also premium tea and coffee making facilities.
Business class rooms qualify for access to the Business Lounge, where there are computers, printer, fax machine and photocopier as well as a selection of international newspapers and magazines. Executive rooms are granted access to all services at the Corinthia Prague, including the 22nd floor Executive Club Lounge, where you can enjoy a complimentary breakfast whilst gazing out across the whole city. You can also gain some insights into shopping and the best places to eat in town from the helpful staff on hand. They come around during breakfast to see what assistance they can provide for guests in their plans for the day. Executive guests also gain access to the rooftop pool, the fully equipped fitness centre and the Apollo Day Spa.
The 26th floor spa offers guests a haven of health, fitness and relaxation with superb views of Prague whilst either relaxing or working up a sweat. There is a wide range of luxury therapies and beauty treatments, with guests encouraged to take full advantage of the relaxation rooms, saunas, steam baths and indoor pool. The fully equipped gym can be found on the 25th floor of the hotel and, for those guests that like to pound the pavements, a complimentary jogging station is set up outside the hotel every day, providing drinking water and towels; and once a week group jogging sessions are organised to the famous Vysehrad Park.
The Corinthia Prague meetings facilities are located over two floors (3rd and 24th). There is a dedicated Conference and Events Centre where the facilities are divided in two by a scenic foyer with views over the city. There is a total of 22 fully equipped spaces, with the main venue able to seat up to 500 delegates.
They have been recently renovated and equipped with the latest technology, including multimedia information kiosks with HD screens and in-built Wi-Fi capable of displaying key data for meetings, presentations, videos, logos and live feeds. There are new in-built screens and projectors with capacities from 4200 ANSI, LCD 3-chip technology and ultra-short projection distance. HD 46-inch screens built in the meeting rooms can display images, videos or live feed from speakers in parallel or independently of main projection.
There are three dining options within the Corinthia Prague. Rickshaw encompasses the full spectrum of Far East cuisine. The Grill features an impressive live cooking station, offering international flavours as well as a charcoal grill. Let's Eat is the hotel’s buffet breakfast restaurant. Café Praha serves a large selection of teas, coffee and home made cakes and sweet treats as well as light savoury snacks and salads. A summer terrace has seasonal refreshments and ice-cream specialities. The Blue Note Bar offers fine liqueurs, champagne, bespoke cocktails and craft beers. On Thursday nights it showcases local entertainers.
The hotel provides transport at short notice and on transfers to and from the airport offers complimentary Wi-Fi en route for guests who prefer to be connected at all times.
