Roger St. Pierre stays at Legacy Hallingbury Manor

Business travellers taking morning flights face two stark choices – getting up at some ungodly hour with the possibility of nail-biting delays on the way to the airport or arriving the previous day to spend a boring evening at some cheerless airport hotel.
At Stansted, though, stately Legacy Hallingbury Manor offers a third and far more appealing option. A classic country house hotel, set in pleasant grounds and with a raft of amenities, it’s just a 10 minutes drive from the airport check-in. Fronting onto a quiet country lane and overlooking a pretty lake, the hotel has an attractive Edwardian-era mock-Tudor frontage and has recently been completely refurbished.

There are 43 beautifully designed and commodious guestrooms and suites available, including classic doubles and superior suites that have a range of added amenities. Wi-fi functions in all the guestrooms and there is easy parking out of sight behind a screen of trees that give the hotel its air of seclusion and tranquillity.

Light meals are served in the popular Garden Bar, while the Lakeside Restaurant, with its lovely views across the water, provides an imaginative fusion of cuisines from around the world.

Airport hotels are, of course, extremely convenient for events, eliminating time wasted by many delegates who have to travel between airport and venue. Hallingbury Manor has a lot to offer event organisers.

Ornately carved panels are the dominant theme in the appropriately named Oak Room, which can cater for up to 60 theatre-style, 25 boardroom, and which opens out onto a secluded walled garden and lily pond that make an ideal area for cocktail functions and presentations.

The elegant Lakeside Suite provides a larger function room for up to 150 theatre-style, 70 cabaret-fashion, and is stylishly contemporary with its neutral colour schemes. French windows lead into a conservatory area for further capacity.

The light and airy Gallery Room takes its name from the pleasing collection of artworks adorning its walls, while the contemporary nature of the room furnishes a true blank surface to suit any colour scheme or corporate theme.

Finally, the new [email protected] Top function space tops out the main building and is proving popular for meetings of up to 30 theatre-style or 18 boardroom.

Special delegate day rates are available for a minimum of six participants Besides its convenient location for the airport, the Legacy Great Hallingbury Manor Hotel is set where Hertfordshire abuts on Essex, less than five-minutes from Junction 8 of the M11 – just a 45 minute run from London and 25 minutes from Cambridge, while the A20, which crosses the M11 here and is largely dual carriageway, brings Colchester within 50-minutes reach.

Though Stansted operates a busy schedule of flights to more than 140 destinations at home and abroad, this corner of East Anglia is a glorious pastiche of quiet back roads and picture postcard villages. It’s also home to a large number of companies offering corporate and team building exercises, from shooting parties, golf and cycling to archery and treasure hunts.

And if the event is a celebration celebrate, how about bottles of Great Bardfield’s finest, an award-winning locally produced fizz that even French sommeliers are currently raving about!
