One month to go to find Scotland's greenest tourism businesses
There is less than one month to go for tourism companies to enter the race to find Scotland’s most environmentally-aware firms.Tourism firms are being urged to enter the 2012 Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards before the 6 July deadline and gain recognition for their sustainable achievements.
The leading environmental awards scheme is now in its thirteenth year. It aims to recognise businesses of all sizes and sectors employing environmental best practice in their day-to-day activity to cut down on resource use, increase sustainability, improve reputation and benefit the company’s bottom-line.
Previous winners of the free to enter awards have included Rabbie’s Small Group Tours which scooped the Changing Behaviour Award at last year’s ceremony.
“The VIBES Awards recognise businesses which have taken significant steps to improve or reduce their impact on the environment,” explains Gillian Bruce, VIBES Chair.
“Although the deadline for entries is fast approaching we want to let tourism businesses across Scotland know that there is still plenty of time to enter VIBES. It’s free to enter and companies can also receive assistance from the Environmental Placement Programme in completing their entry.
“We have received many high quality entries so far, and we hope that even more of Scotland’s leading businesses will enter this year to be in with a chance of gaining recognition for their sustainable practices.”
This year there will be a total of nine awards, including a new category: The Collaboration Award. Winners will be selected from the following categories:
• Management Award: large company category (more than 250 employees)
• Management Award: SME (up to 250 employees)
• Energy
• Waste and Resources
• Transport
• Environmental and Clean Technology
• Changing Behaviour
• Best Micro Business
• Collaboration Award
The Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation (ECCI) is sponsoring the VIBES Management Award for Small and Medium Enterprises, which celebrates the green achievements of companies with up to 250 employees.
All shortlisted entries for the VIBES Awards will be offered free support from ECCI. This support will be available for a minimum of half a day, and a maximum of three days, within six months of the VIBES Award ceremony.
ScottishPower is sponsoring the VIBES Environmental and Clean Technologies (ECT) Award. The Energy Efficiency and Low Carbon Unit of the Scottish Government will sponsor the Energy Award.
VIBES is the only Scottish awards scheme which feeds into the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE). By winning a VIBES Award, companies are eligible to enter the EBAE, which attract entries from the cream of Europe’s most environmentally positive businesses.
