Scottish hotel named best newcomer at leading industry awards

A luxury Scottish castle transformed into a five-star luxury hotel is celebrating a successful opening year adding a top industry award to its string of accolades for 2016.

Crossbasket Castle, near Glasgow, was awarded the coveted Best Newcomer or Back on the Scene Award at the Condé Nast Johansens Annual Awards for Excellence in London this week (7 November 2016).

Recognising and celebrating excellence across the world of hotels, spas and venues, the awards are highly regarded by travel enthusiasts and industry experts.

Recused from ruin in 2011 by a local businessman and his wife, Steve Timoney and Alison Reid-Timoney, the castle opened in April 2016 as a luxury five-star hotel and events venue complete with a fine-dining restaurant from legendary chefs Albert and Michel Roux Jr.

Mark Lambson, general manager, Crossbasket Castle said: “We are extremely proud to have won this award and to be recognised by Condé Nast Johansens.

“The team at Crossbasket Castle work tirelessly to ensure guests have the best possible experience and the exceptional surroundings make coming to work every day an absolute pleasure.”

“We’ve had a fantastic first year and it’s great to have another top award under our belt. I look forward to what 2017 has in store for the castle.”

David Simak, the hotel’s pastry chef was recently awarded the top prize of Chocolate Dessert of the Year at this year’s Chocolate Show in London. Earlier in the year the hotel added five-star accommodation ratings from VisitScotland and the AA to its growing list of accolades and was welcomed by industry experts to the Small Luxury Hotels portfolio.

Operated by hotel management group Inverlochy Castle Management International (ICMI), Crossbasket Castle features, nine bedrooms, including a four-storey bridal tower, a grand ballroom seating up to 250 people and a fine-dining restaurant welcoming guests for lunch, dinner and afternoon tea bookings. It is also a sought after weddings and events venue.
