“Camp WannaHavaFunna” named Best Team-building Program at the 2016 Association of Destination Management Executives International (ADMEI) Annual AwardsThe Association of Destination Management Executives International (ADMEI) announced the winners of their annual Achievement, Excellence and Recognition Awards in Oklahoma City on February 13th. At this event, North Texas based destination management company, Ultimate Ventures, a DMC Network company, was honored to receive the industry’s top award for team-building, Best Creative Event - Best Team-building Activity, for their “Camp WannaHavaFunna” program.
This custom team-building activity was created for 170 Executive Chefs from a prominent restaurant chain for their Annual Leadership Conference, held at the Westin Stonebriar Hotel in Frisco. The group wanted to incorporate an action-packed team-building activity with a local give back component into their conference schedule. It was imperative that the activity provide adventure, excitement and ample opportunities for interaction. Their meeting planning team reached out to Ultimate Ventures for a solution.
Ultimate Ventures designed the “Camp WannaHavaFunna” team-building program and took an unorthodox approach to address the client’s needs. By incorporating interactive camp-themed activities such as a 50-yard crabwalk dash, indoor archery, synchronized swimming, and a food-themed marshmallow cabin showdown, the chefs were able to take a break from their meetings and bond with one another in an unexpectedly hilarious way.
Adding to the fun, 25 teenagers were brought in from the nearby Boys & Girls Club of Collin County to surprise the group. One teen per team joined their new teammates in order to compete in camp activities and win school supplies for their organization. By adding actual students into the mix, teams went into overdrive to ensure their student’s success. The laughter and youthful energy in the ballroom was infectious.
In addition to the new friendships and special bonds created, the end result was a donation of 100 backpacks and 4,000 school supplies to the Boys & Girls Club. Another meaningful by-product was the opportunity for these teens to interact and bond with a group of talented, successful Executive Chefs from across the country. Ending with a heartfelt thank you by one of the students, the event was a resounding success for the chefs and students alike.
