Final event of 2015 sets the stage for successful 2016 for Langkawi’s purpose-built, state-of-the-art, convention centre.Michael Schlueter (right), the Managing Director of the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC), The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa and The St. Regis Langkawi, shows off an award won by his team at the 5th Langkawi Tourism Awards, which were recently held at the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC).
The Langkawi Tourism Awards event was attended by over one thousand guests and officiated by Guests of Honour Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Khalid Ramli.
Commenting on the event Michael Schlueter said, “We were delighted to host this event and these dignitaries at LICC. It is less than a year since we opened our state-of-the-art facility, so it was great to end the year hosting such a prestigious event as this, particularly as it is focused on rewarding those who do so much in promoting Langkawi as high-end destination.”
He continued, “During his comments at the event the Prime Minister emphasised the continuing importance of developing Langkawi as high-end tourism ‘gem’. We certainly support this focus. This is one of the key reasons we developed LICC, providing Langkawi with a business tourism destination and facility of international standard, broadening the attractiveness of the island for the high-end market. We are confident that we will set new standards in Langkawi this year, playing a pivotal role in providing the infrastructure for business events on the island”
“Langkawi has so much to offer as a luxury destination and we believe that the presence of our state-of-the-art facility, along with our growing reputation for successfully hosting significant and prestigious events, will increasingly tempt organisers in the business meetings and conventions industry to look to Langkawi to host their high-end events. We are currently expecting to host many events in 2016 for both domestic and international clients – ranging from conferences, product launches to other niche meetings.”
The LICC’s appeal as a destination for high-end business events in Langkawi is enhanced by its strategic location – close to the island’s shopping and commercial centre and by its proximity to the neighbouring The Westin Langkawi and the soon to be opened The St. Regis Langkawi – offering potential visitors some fantastic accommodation options. During the Langkawi Tourism Awards The Westin Langkawi’s ‘Heavenly Spa’ picked up the ‘Best Hotel Based Spa’ award – great news for stressed business-event delegates looking for the perfect way to unwind at the end of their meetings!
