MyEvent.Vision winner announced

Student chosen asvictor by leading industry experts in new events competition

Earlier this week (3rd March) Heather Varley, an Events Management student at Leeds Beckett University, was revealed as the first ever winner of MyEvent.Vision.
The nationwide event industry competition, a process best understood as ‘Dragons’ Den meets The Apprentice’, saw the judges select Heather as the strongest contestant. As such, she will receive a job offer from global events agency, Events International Group (EIG), investment into her concept, the opportunity to work as part of the team that turns her winning event concept into a reality and £5,000 cash.

Heather explained ‘I was initially keen to take part as I love the events industry and I am very competitive but I also wanted to see my event concept make it to market! The process was a whirlwind of new experiences and challenges and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I can’t quite believe that I have won. Whilst I am shocked, I am also elated, honoured and proud, not least of all because it lets me represent both my university and young women in events. I would urge anyone serious about a future in the industry to put themselves forward, it is a challenging, positive process that puts you in front of people who can help shape your future.’

Head of the judging panel and MD of EIG, Chad Lion-Cachet, added ‘MyEvent.Vision set out to unearth exciting creative talent, an aim that was fulfilled by all the shortlistees as well as Heather. Choosing a winner was no easy task, each candidate impressed by putting their best pitch forward.

Ultimately, we chose Heather as the winner as we felt she had the strongest event proposition. Speaking on behalf of all the judges, we found Heather an exciting candidate who pitched a well-considered proposal and was a very engaging, impressive young person. We are excited about her joining the EIG team and look forward to good things from her in the future.’

Entries were open to anyone with a fresh event concept with the shortlisted candidates invited to pitch to a panel of leading industry experts from EIG, The Financial Times, Walt Disney Media+, Storm Model Management and Raw World.

Supported by EVCOM, BVEP, Britain for Events and ISES, the competition has been a great success with next year’s search starting again this September.
